Dr. Maria Gross

Dr. Maria Gross currently is a math and leadership teacher in a project-based aviation high school. Maria strives to provide all students educational opportunities. Her career took her from graduating as a Purdue University chemical engineer, working in a Minnesota paper mill, designing/constructing environmental remediation processes, teaching middle school science and high school math, leading K-12 math and science departments, and preparing future teachers as an Associate Dean in teacher education. Maria has co-written three books on leadership, as well as chapters and articles on trauma-informed teaching, international perspectives on educational creativity, and developing cultural competence. Personally, Maria and her family have hosted seven youth exchange students from around the world. She and her husband enjoy connecting with their extended family through international adventures via travel and cooking. Maria has served on local and international education-based non-profit boards, including Palmer Scholars (Tacoma WA) and Lilliir Education Project (South Sudan). Her vocation of hands-on learning and avocation of international adventuring feed her passion for VOCFINU.

Erin Hurley, MD | Advisory Committee Member, VOCFINU

Erin Hurley, MD, is a dedicated advocate for the well-being of children and a passionate supporter of women in their personal and professional journeys. With over two decades of leadership experience during her 25-year medical career, she has been a driving force for positive change in healthcare and beyond. Committed to service, she has supported nonprofits for over 30 years and currently serves on the board of her local medical society as well as a statewide program dedicated to the mental health of medical providers in Oregon.

As the founder and CEO of Transformational Doc, Erin empowers women—particularly those in medicine—to flourish through coaching, community, and innovative wellness programs. A lifelong champion for children, she previously served as the Medical Director of Liberty House, a Child Abuse Evaluation Center, where she worked to protect and support vulnerable youth. Now, through her role with VOCFINU, she brings her expertise, compassion, and commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for women and children to thrive. Whether through mentorship, advocacy, or leadership, Erin is dedicated to building a brighter, more equitable future for the next generation.
